Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) is several years older than EKS and embraces hybrid cloud designs with several services that help organizations move data and applications between Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and private environments. Concurrently with AWS’ VMware partnership, GCP underpinned Pivotal Cloud Service (PKS), a collaboration with Pivotal Labs and VMware to serve as a bridge between private Pivotal environments, running on vSphere, and GCP.
There would be no Kubernetes without Google, which open sourced the software that was based on its own internal technology. Google was also the first to offer a managed Kubernetes service when it added Google Kubernetes Engine.
It supports cluster management through Google Cloud Console, Google Cloud Shell, kubectl and Cloud Tools for PowerShell. There are also plenty of open source tools available on GitHub that can save time, including Minikube and kubeadm
